Disney, BeeHive Interns Address Guild

Jacob Feiock at Walt Disney World

Senior Jacob Feiock recounted his time with the Disney College Program over dinner with the Moving Pictures Guild Wednesday night. Feiock worked in a paid internship with the company’s Florida theme park during the summer and fall of 2024. Feiock’s presentation began with an informative history of the program, several decades before his own move to Orlando.

“Unfortunately, you don’t get to pick your role,” said Feiock. “You’re placed by an administrator. But you can make the most of it. I worked in Transportation. But when a supervisor said they needed a video to train workers in parking, I leapt at the chance. Now I’ve got a Disney production credit on my résumé. It’s a matter of being vocal about your talents and professional desires and being ready when opportunities come along.”

While working at Disney, Feiock lived in Flamingo Crossings Village, a community in Winter Park for the park’s college workers. “I networked with so many people and so many different kinds of people. It’ll be so much easier to pack up and be a stranger in another place now that I’ve lived on my own in Florida.”

Jacob Sukhenko’s “NWPA Made” logo

Jacob Sukhenko also offered a report, summarizing a semester as a video/photo intern with the NWPA BeeHive, perhaps an ideal placement for a junior working to earn dual concentrations in Philm and Graphic Design. The BeeHive was established in 2014 to enhance business expansion and development in Northwest Pennsylvania. One of a network of institutional partners, PennWest Edinboro specializes in branding and strategic communication.

“I was selected for the ‘NWPA Made’ initiative. We created a logo, as well as guidelines for photographs and other assets.” A style guide’s standardized content specifications will help the BeeHive offer free design and marketing services to ‘Maker-Entrepreneurs’ from Erie and Crawford Counties.

Sukhenko was also tasked with making a suite of branding videos and a pitch sheet for Hikes and Hose. A local start-up repurposes retired firehoses as outdoor gear.  Sukhenko’s work introduces the products, hoping to persuade to merchants to carry Hikes and Hose merchandise.

“The relationship between film and photography, marketing design and assets is intertwined. When you’re creating a brand, it’s important to cover all the bases and consider rules and aesthetics in unexpected places. Professional versatility is key,” said Sukhenko.
