(Erie, PA – November 6, 2023)
Philm student Reggie Taylor has been hired by a local television station to assist in production of its live news programming.
Broadcasting since 1966, WJET-TV is a television station in Erie, affiliated with the ABC network. It is owned by Nexstar Media Group, which provides certain services to Fox affiliate WFXP under a local marketing agreement with Mission Broadcasting.
Taylor’s first duty will be as a studio camera operator, said the station’s general manager, Julie Zoumbaris. But, she said“ he would also have the opportunity to learn to work the audio board or graphics if it fits with his skillset down the line.
“We’ve recently upgraded our control room with new equipment. This is a great time and place for a production assistant right out of college to get familiar with many of the jobs required to get the news on-air,” said Zoumbaris. “And not just the technical side. We like hiring people who can write, too. Some of our former production assistants have moved into promotions and sales.”
Asked to provide an employment reference, Philm Professor Brian Fuller said “Reggie’s a winsome collaborator. People like having him on their team. And he’s reached out to take responsibility in lots of different areas.” As one example, Taylor’s in charge of production audio recording on the set of The Damsel Trope, one of two films being made this semester by students of ART4905, Narrative Filmmaking.
